“Consider our Savior, Jesus Christ …. ” (Hebrews 3)

Review: In chapter two of the letter to the Hebrews, we saw both the humility and honor of Jesus Christ. He humbled Himself by leaving the glory He once had with with the Father (see John 17: 5)  and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2: 8). Then, God exalted Him to the highest place (2:9) and gave Him the name above all names, restoring Him to the glory (and honor) He had before the incarnation (John 17: 5).

 

 

1. In Hebrews 3: Jesus Christ is called the “apostle” and “High Priest” of our confession for He was faithful to complete the work and the will of God that He was sent to fulfill (see John 5:18-24, 30, 10:18,12: 46-50, 19: 30).

What other honorable names / titles are ascribed to Jesus that you are inspired by? How is this name/title backed up in the scriptures?

 

 

 

 

2. “He who built the house has more honor than the house” (Heb. 3: 3-4) How does this pertain / relate to Jesus when compared to Moses? When compared to the church

 
 
 

3. “But exhort one another daily while it is called today lest any of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin” (v. 13). How have you exhorted a brother recently to beware of a sin? How did He react?

 

 

 

 

4. The last two verses of Hebrews 3 warns about the children of Israel not entering into God’s rest because of unbelief (v. 18-19) in the promises of God, particularly as it pertained to entering the promised land.
 
 
There are various usages and meanings of the word “rest” in the scriptures: rest after creation, rest of the entrance into Canaan by trusting in God’s promises (see above) , rest of salvation, rest of consecration, and the rest of heaven.  
 
 

Share a time you experienced “God’s rest” when you believed on His promises? How about the opposite?
