Nehemiah 1

Nehemiah 1:11- O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, grant him mercy in the sight of this man.

We ought to be excited about what God will do in the New Year.

Often, we fail because we don’t have a plan.

In Nehemiah, we will be focusing on our souls.

Both Haggai and Nehemiah focus on the post-exile period. The time after the 70-year Babylonian captivity.

Not all the Jews were taken in the captivity. Many of the poor people were left, and those people intermarried with the local people and became the Samaritans.  They created issues with the rebuilding efforts in Jerusalem.

Nehemiah came on the scene about 75 years after Haggai. Approximately the year 440 B.C.

Nehemiah resolves to do something to help with the problem that he heard of regarding the situation in Jerusalem. And he takes bold action to act on the resolve.

Nehemiah made sure his plan was pleasing to God.

Nehemiah’s first action was to pray.

Jesus also prepared Himself for action by prayer. We have to do the same today.

Nehemiah prepared himself by humbling himself and confessing his sin.

Nehemiah then stepped out in faith.

We need God’s strength and help to live the live we know we should live.

If God is in the center of your resolution, He will help you complete it.
